Napoli have unequivocally denied offering star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia an improved contract in a remarkable statement on social media.
Kvaratskhelia joined the Serie A club last summer and made a huge impact in his first season, registering 12 goals and 13 assists as Napoli won the title for the first time in 33 years.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, and have led to speculation regarding his future.
The Italian media have reported that Kvaratskhelia has been offered a huge pay rise on his current €1.2m-a-year (£1m) salary, which could see his wages tripled as Napoli look to keep hold of one of their key performers.
But Napoli insist this isn’t the case, and have hit out at the Georgian’s agents for feeding incorrect information to the media.

‘Some media continue to tell, having the footballer’s agents as their only source, of alleged negotiations in progress for the renewal of Kvaratskhelia. It’s bulls***,’ Napoli wrote on X.
‘No one from Napoli has ever talked about the possible renewal of the player (whose contract expires in 4 years). Neither Mauro Meluso, nor Maurizio Micheli, nor Aurelio de Laurentiis, nor Andrea Chiavelli did it.’
Napoli had to fend off interest in Kvaratskhelia over the summer, with Newcastle reportedly making an £82m bid for him, while the player has also previously spoken of his love of Real Madrid.
For now, he remains on their books, but it seems they have no intention of offering him a new deal any time soon.
Kvaratskhelia has had a quieter start to his second season in Naples, missing his team’s opening game against Frosinone with muscle fatigue.
He returned off the bench the following week against Sassuolo, and made his first start of the campaign against Lazio on Saturday, but was unable to inspire his side to victory as they were beaten 2-1 by Maurizio Sarri’s men.
That result leaves Napoli with six points from their opening three matches, three points adrift of both Milan clubs.
