Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he has held a meeting with Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson over their frequent bookings this season.

The Blues have struggled in the Premier League so far this season and dropped points once again when they faced Bournemouth last weekend.

Pochettino’s side host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and will be hoping to get a positive result in front of their own fans.

While Jackson looked sharp in the early stages of the season, the Senegal international has become a frustrated figure and picked up four yellow cards in five matches – all for talking back to the officials.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash, Pochettino opened up on his frustrations and revealed that he has held a meeting with Jackson and Fernandez.

He said: ‘Today we were talking about that (number of bookings) as we had a meeting with him and also Enzo. 

”A striker, four yellow cards only for talking with the referee. Not because of that, it is so cheap and it is going to bring a difficult situation to the team. He understood. 

‘Jackson is young, he is going to be a fantastic player. He needs to be calm and relaxed.’

The Blues head coach continued to back his players but asked the fans and critics alike for time for them to show their qualities.

He continued: ‘We are talking about young players, you can blame me or blame us but they need time. There’s no doubt we have amazing talent but they need time.’

Pochettino finalised by sending a message to Jackson, telling him that he has to tread carefully with Premier League referees after his move from La Liga. 

‘He needs to be clever and not protest to the referees,’ he said. ‘Maybe it’s because it’s his normal behaviour on the pitch, this season change the rules, he came from Spain and it’s different and the change is more sensitive about this. 

‘It is about adapting. I hope on Sunday we are not talking about him being clever and first action he is getting a yellow card.’

If Jackson is to pick up another booking on Sunday, he will be handed a one match suspension for accumulation of yellow cards.

Pochettino will be keen to avoid that, with Christopher Nkunku currently sidelined through injury and Armando Broja yet to return from a long-term spell out.
