Premier League fans could be in for a shock as the length of VAR interventions might increase due to new proposals from IFAB.
The technology, which has been a part of English football since the 2019/20 season, has sparked plenty of debate and controversy, with many fans wanting it scrapped altogether. But Fresh talks could see VAR calls becoming even more frequent, with football's lawmakers on the International FA Board set to meet today (Tuesday) to discuss potential changes to VAR.
The Mirror says that free-kicks, corners and second yellow cards could come under scrutiny. Currently, VAR only steps in for game-changing situations like goals, red cards or penalties.

If VAR's scope is expanded, matches could face more interruptions. However, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham, who holds one of the eight deciding votes, has already voiced his concerns over the proposals.
He said: "I know that is something we will discuss at IFAB. We would be really reluctant to have a game that was stopped a lot more than it currently is but that will be a proper discussion."

Referees' boss Howard Webb has hinted that there's no plan to increase the use of VAR in Premier League matches. Speaking on Mic'd Up, he said: "We don't want too much interference. We've seen negative comments about over-interference by VAR so by reserving it for clear situations, then we feel it serves the game best."
Webb added: "Recognising those clear situations is important – it's where we put a lot of our time and effort into the training and this type of situation reaches that threshold, and that's the advice we've given to our VARs going forward."

In addition to the VAR debate, other changes are also being considered. These include stricter handball laws, with red cards potentially being introduced for 'deliberate' play. Penalty rules may also be revised, with a new law possibly requiring the ball to touch the centre of the penalty spot. Two trials regarding player discipline will also be voted on.
IFAB is considering a rule where only team captains can speak to the referee during a match. A 'sin-bin' system could also be introduced as an alternative to red cards when a sending off would be deemed too harsh.
