Real Madrid have identified Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez as a potential backup option if they are unable to sign Kylian Mbappe next summer.

Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe has been heavily linked with Real for several years and it is anticipated that he will finally make the switch to the Spanish club next summer once his contract expires.

According to Fichajes, Real have identified potential options in case they cannot land Mbappe, with Alvarez one of the players that is being considered.

Alvarez is in his second season at City following his move from River Plate.

The 23-year-old netted 17 goals in all competitions last season and has scored twice so far this campaign.

Alvarez has over 20 caps for Argentina and helped his team to win the World Cup in Qatar last year.

Although the prolific Erling Haaland is firmly established as City’s first-choice striker, Alvarez has demonstrated that he is capable of performing effectively when operating behind the Norwegian.

Alvarez has a long-term contract at City that runs until the summer of 2028.

City manager Pep Guardiola rates Alvarez highly and would certainly be reluctant to let him leave.

It is likely that Real will look to bring in a high-profile striker next summer, especially after losing Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad this year.
