Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been sent off for choking Morgan Gibbs-White in the Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.

The 27-year-old was shown a straight red card while his side were 2-0 up at the Etihad. His moment of madness occurred just after the half-time break, with the Spaniard being involved in a bust-up in the corner.

Rodri put both of his hands on the Under-21 European Championship winner's neck as the pair squared up to each other. And after a brief VAR check, he was given his marching orders.

The veteran is set to miss the three next domestic fixtures with suspension. It comes as a huge blow to Pep Guardiola's side, who have become reliant in his assuredness in midfield.

Rodri's missed fixtures will include an EFL Cup tie against Newcastle United, a visit to Wolves, and one of the most important games of the season against Arsenal on October 8.

The trip to the Emirates would have been the one City drew their eyes towards as soon as the fixtures were released for the season. The Gunners were their main Premier League rivals last season, leading the league for the majority of the campaign before a late collapse handed City their third consecutive title.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be licking his lips now at the prospect of facing his former club without one of their integral cogs.
