San Marino's first goal in their Euro 2024 qualification campaign brought a devastating end to one man's 14-fold accumulator.
The micro-state took on Denmark on Tuesday (October 17) in Group H where they sat bottom with seven defeats out of seven with no goals scored. Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring just before half-time as fans feared the floodgates would begin to open but the 207th-ranked nation held off to enter the break just one goal down.
However, in truly stunning scenes, San Marino's Alessandro Golinucci struck home in close range to equalise for his country which brought forth massive celebrations from his team-mates and coaches who stormed the pitch. While citizens of the fifth-smallest country in the world were having a whale of a time, there was one man who saw his dreams crushed at the sight of the rare goal.

X user @lucajoe0 had placed £20 on 14 games from this month's international fixture list as he looked set on cashing in on a whopping payout of £3,056.28 after 13 of the 14 results had come through. Ahead of San Marino's clash with Denmark, he had bet on Denmark to win – which they did 2-1 – but he didn't believe both teams would score, given San Marino had not scored in their prior seven qualifiers.
Golinucci's equaliser stopped his impending fortune in its tracks as in his devastation, he posted a video of his betting slip on X where his caption read: "I am cursed". He found much sympathy in his comments section with one user writing: "Betting against San Marino to score and they actually do has got to be torture," while another commented: "San Marino score their first goal in over a year I’d spew".

A third sympathiser said: "I’d never bet again after that," as it'll surely take a while for the football fan to recover. While Denmark's victory took them to second place in Group H, Hojlund claimed that he was being "targeted" by the San Marino players who put in some harsh challenges on the 20-year-old.
After the game, the Man United striker said: "They targeted me today, as you can see at the end," he said. "I understand Italian and I could hear them saying that they had the idea to crush me. You can see from the images that he only had one idea in mind. A yellow card is a joke".
