The Morocco international completed his switch to United on deadline day as he arrived from Fiorentina on an initial £8.5 million (€10m) loan deal, while Erik ten Hag’s side have the option to make the move permanent for £21.4m (€25m).
However, Liverpool were also in the market to bolster their midfield options in the summer window and Amrabat was on their shortlist.
Reports this week have claimed that Amrabat was close to joining Liverpool and had even spoke to Jurgen Klopp about the prospect of moving to Anfield.
But Amrabat insists being reunited with Ten Hag was his first-choice option.
When asked if he endured a difficult period in the summer as he held out for a move to United, Amrabat said: ‘Yes, of course.
‘After the last game with the club, it was the Conference League final with West Ham and from that moment, the window started for me.
‘A lot of clubs, a lot of speaking, talking, but for me it was clear I wanted Manchester United.
‘It was long, long months for me, difficult months for me, but at the end it’s nice on the last day that I signed here and that I’m here is now the most important.’
When asked about the prospect of making his move to United permanent at the end of the season, Amrabat said: ‘I don’t think about that. For me, today, I am a Manchester United player.
‘The only thing I can do is every day to give everything that I have, to do my best, to try to help the team.
‘I hope we have a fantastic season, I hope we can win something and then later we will see what will happen.
‘Of course, I would love to stay here, but that’s not important for me. I don’t look too far into the future.’
