Man Utd players' feelings towards Jadon Sancho after latest Erik ten Hag spat
Sofyan Amrabat has a secret clause in his Manchester United contract that will have helped convince Fiorentina to sanction a move on transfer deadline day, according to reports. United sealed a season-long loan deal for Amrabat with hours to spare, handing Erik ten Hag his desired second midfielder after weeks of strong links.
The Red Devils’ desperate need for further reinforcements after Mason Mount’s £60million arrival from Chelsea became clear in their opening four Premier League fixtures.
Ten Hag’s side were split open by Wolves at Old Trafford on opening weekend and had to come back from two goals down to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 in their other home game.
But they were beaten on the road against Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, continuing their torrid run of results at top-half opposition.
Amrabat will improve the situation, though, joining for an £8.5m loan fee. And United have the option to make the move permanent for around £21m next summer.
Fiorentina rejected United’s initial approach and unsurprisingly required a tempting offer to accept Amrabat’s exit in the dying embers of the window.
Part of the Serie A side’s reluctance may have been down to the situation with his contract, which was due to expire in 2025.

It meant that if Amrabat’s United switch didn’t work out, Fiorentina would likely lose him for a cut-price fee once he entered the final 12 months of his deal.
However, Italian outlet Il Tirreno report that Fiorentina inserted a clause into Amrabat’s United contract to protect his value.
The clause states that if he returns to the club at the end of the season, they can extend his contract until 2026.
The report adds that Fiorentina accepted a deferred payment schedule from United so they could insert the clause, making the outcome work for all parties.

As club football resumes this weekend, Amrabat could make his United debut in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old withdrew from Morocco duty during the international break to prevent the risk of injury before his Red Devils career begins.
Ten Hag may introduce him from the bench, as he did with new £72m striker Rasmus Hojlund against Arsenal last time out.
Brighton’s visit starts an important run of games, including a trip to Bayern Munich in the Champions League and a meeting with Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup third round.
