Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-Min has been the hero and villain in his side's Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The 31-year-old put the away side in front in just the sixth minute following a calculated counter-attack against the reigning champions that saw finish past Ederson Becker. It was a perfect to Spurs' trip to Manchester as they look to break their three-match losing streak with a result against Pep Guardiola's side.

However, the lead lasted less than three minutes after Son scored an own goal following a Man City cross into the Spurs box.

Fans on social media barely had enough time to celebrate the goal of the South Korea captain before he put it in his own net with one X (formerly Twitter) jokingly writing: "Just Son Heung-min playing as a neutral player" while another commented: "Son Heung Min on the brace".

In what was Son's ninth Premier League goal of the season, there was an unwanted piece of history he made in Sunday's blockbuster clash as his own goal was the first of his footballing career.

With both goals coming in the opening 10 minutes of the game, there's much more action to come as the winger will have the chance to redeem his blunder as he remains one goal away from netting double digits in the Premier League for the eighth season running.

He scored just 10 goals last season – the second-worst tally in his Spurs career – as fans started to wonder whether they had seen the best of the South Korean international, however, he's returned this season with a new lease of life as well as the captaincy on his arm following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich this past summer.
