True Cost of Football Investigation: Fans face highest-on-record prices for tickets and shirts
Tottenham’s quest to find a replacement for Harry Kane could see Jonathan David move to north London, according to reports. New manager Ange Postecoglou has been forced to seek out a fresh focal point for his strikeforce after club record goalscorer Kane ended his 19-year association with Spurs by moving to Bayern Munich this summer in a reported £85.5m transfer deal.
Replacing their talisman is no easy feat but according to GIVEMESPORT, the focus has now turned to Lille forward David who has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe this summer.
The same outlet had previously claimed that the 23-year-old was being monitored by Spurs as a possible future signing. He has one year left on his current contract and could be sold in this window to prevent him from walking away from Lille for nothing in 12 months’ time.
The French outfit is believed to want about £55m for their star man, who scored 24 Ligue 1 goals last season in 37 appearances and would be expected to accept any “reasonable” offer that is close to their valuation.
David is a Canadian international and can boast 42 international caps to his name with a return of 25 goals for his national team.
The report claims that Tottenham has already approached Lille about the conditions and are ‘exploring a deal’ but are still yet to make an official move.
Spurs have already signed former Leicester star James Maddison this summer but were given a scare at the weekend when the England international was seen leaving the Tottenham Stadium on crutches after an impressive 2-0 win against Manchester United.

Maddison has already clocked up two assists since arriving in north London and according to the Evening Standard, he is expected to be fit to face Bournemouth this weekend.
Tottenham started their season with a hard-fought 2-2 draw away to Brentford before goals from Pape Matar Sarr and an own goal from Lisandro Martinez secured a morale-boosting home win against Erik ten Hag’s side that got the Postecoglou era off to a flying start at home.
With four goals in their first two matches, Spurs may not have yet felt the loss of Kane from their forward line, but his consistent goal return over countless seasons ensures that the void left by the England captain’s departure is not a matter that can be left unattended and Canadian marksman David could be just the man to fill his sizeable shoes.
