Tottenham in danger of having transfer for Harry Kane replacement ‘hijacked’

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou said he has never been a fan of VAR after their 2-1 win over Liverpool

Tottenham are in danger of having their transfer for Jonathan David ‘hijacked’ in January by Italian side AC Milan. Ange Postecoglou has targeted the Canadian striker as a replacement to Harry Kane following his summer transfer to Bayern Munich.

Lille striker David scored 24 times in Ligue 1 last season and already has four goals in all competitions this term. GiveMeSport previously said that the Canadian international is keen on moving to the Premier League.

David could be sold in January to prevent him leaving for nothing when his current contract ends in June 2025. The French side bought David from Gent in 2020 for £25.9million and are rumoured to be open to any ‘reasonable’ offers.

It is believed that Lille want around the £55m mark for their star striker and Spurs could become involved in a January bidding war. According to Football Italia interest has come from AC Milan who could hijack a potential Spurs bid.

Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com says that Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani is ‘hoping to take advantage of the strong relationship’ with Lille to compete a deal for the Canadian striker.  Spurs could have the financial advantage after gaining a transfer fee of £85.5m for Kane as Bayern Munich swept in for their target man.

Previous reports claim that Tottenham have already approached Lille about a potential move and are ‘exploring a deal’ for the Canadian, without having yet made an official offer. Despite losing Kane in the summer Spurs have hit the ground running this season scoring 17 goals in seven Premier League games.

Son Heung-Min has filled the void left by England international Kane and scored six Premier League goals so far – only Erling Haaland has scored more. Spurs have also been linked with signing talented Mexican forward Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord.

According to Dutch outlet Voetbal4U, Feyenoord want to receive a club-record fee for Gimenez of between £34.7m and £43.3m. The 22-year-old has attracted attention from across Europe after scoring 32 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions since joining from Cruz Azul in July last year.
