Tottenham ‘weighing up’ £40m January attack for ex-free agent Marcus Thuram

Ange Postecoglou hails ‘professional’ Hugo Lloris with Tottenham exit on cards

Tottenham are reportedly considering making a move for Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram as they prepare to bolster their forward ranks in the January transfer window. The forward only joined the Serie A side during the summer but has hit the ground running in Italy, scoring two and assisting two in four league appearances.

Similarly, Ange Postecoglou has taken to life at his new club like a duck to water. The ex-Celtic boss has breathed a fresh lease of life into Spurs with his attacking-based tactics and humility away from the pitch.

With Harry Kane eventually allowed to leave the club to join Bayern Munich, Richarlison and Heung-min Son have led the line for Tottenham so far this season – with varying levels of success. The duo have both provided goal-scoring threats, with James Maddison also thriving in the No 10 role in midfield.

However, Tottenham already appear to be in search of a more traditional focal point despite winning four of their first five matches of the Premier League season. According to InterLive.it, Spurs have been credited with being one of several clubs keeping a close eye on Thuram’s progress at Inter.

The France international has made a significant impact since his arrival at the San Siro, with his partnership with Lautaro Martinez proving to be a nightmare for defenders, with his hold-up play and strength creating plenty of space for his teammate to make use of his speed and desire to race in behind.

Thuram was not short of interest over the summer after becoming a free agent when his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach expired. Paris Saint-Germain were among a host of clubs to have held talks with his representative, with several Premier League outfits also speculatively linked with making a move for the 26-year-old.

Spurs had priorities of their own in the summer and, if they decide to actively pursue Thuram, they will reportedly need to cough up approximately £40million to test the resolve of Inter and see if the Serie A giants are willing to part ways with their new No 9 midway through the season.

Other clubs are also keen on Thuram and Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has been told to ‘watch out’ for potential head-turning approaches, with Chelsea and Real Madrid previously keen on the forward and both clubs appearing likely to be in the market for further attacking reinforcements when the January transfer window arrives.
