Tottenham are the Premier League’s ‘Spursiest’ side after throwing away more points than anyone from a winning position, new data has revealed.

In an ironic twist, it has been proven that the club lives up to one of football’s longest-running stereotypes, with Spurs regularly mocked for failing to win trophies despite several impressive challenges in the top-flight and cup competitions.

Since 1992, Spurs have painstakingly surrendered 451 points when leading in games, two more than Everton and five more than London rivals Chelsea.

This questionable underbelly has also placed them ahead of the likes of Southampton (437), Aston Villa (428), West Ham (424) and Newcastle (414).

Surprisingly, Arsenal and Liverpool also rank highly on the list. The former have dropped 372 points despite being in front, while the latter have lost out on 365.

Reigning champions Manchester City, meanwhile, have surrendered 289 points.

The last time Tottenham were able to add to their trophy cabinet was 2008, when they lifted the League Cup, now the Carabao Cup, after beating Chelsea at Wembley.

In total, they have won 26 trophies, including two UEFA Cups and eight FA Cups.

Recent years have not been kind to them, however, with the semi-final stage of multiple tournaments frequently proving a bridge too far for them.

Indeed, they have crashed out of the FA Cup in the final four on no less than four occasions, while three League Cup final defeats have compounded their misery.

They also missed out on lifting the Champions League after losing to Liverpool in the 2019 final, having conceded the opening goal with just two minutes on the clock.

However, Ange Postecoglou is turning the tide at the club with his side rallying back this year

What may be of some comfort for Spurs, though, is the fact that they are also the club that has clinched the most points from losing positions in the Premier League.

In a similar fashion to their comeback victory over Sheffield United, Spurs have gained 427 points when trailing, with Manchester United narrowly behind on 426.

Also ranking highly in this particular department are Arsenal (392), Liverpool (390), Chelsea (357) and Everton (326). Holders City have collected 250 points, meanwhile.

More recently, Ange Postecoglou has pushed Spurs to earn seven points from losing positions this year, with only Liverpool (nine) having turned more games around.

Brentford are the ‘Spursiest’ side this season after losing six points from winning positions. Trailing them are Bournemouth, Sheffield United and West Ham (all five).

Spurs have also gained the most points from losing positions, fending off Manchester United
