Wilfried Zaha arrived at first Man Utd training day in busty Imogen Thomas top

Wilfried Zaha’s doomed move to Manchester United in 2013 began how it would continue after an ill-advised fashion decision on his first day hit the headlines.

Zaha joined United in a £10million move from Crystal Palace and he would be Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing at the club, although he wouldn’t play under the Scotsman. Ferguson would instead retire at the end of the season and Zaha’s move – that was confirmed in January – wouldn’t see him arrive at Old Trafford until the following summer when David Moyes had taken charge.

Making the move at just 20, Zaha was singled out as a future superstar but his dream move to Old Trafford fell apart within months, and looked doomed from the outset through an ill-advised fashion statement on his first day.

Zaha arrived to complete his medical at United in January but he foolishly turned up in a t-shirt which had former Big Brother housemate and model Imogen Thomas on. Thomas had allegedly had a six-month affair with married United legend and Zaha’s future team-mate Ryan Giggs, in what looked at best a naïve decision and at worst a dig at United’s all-time record appearance holder.

Giggs and Zaha would play just 60 minutes together at United in the Community Shield win against Wigan, that would turn out to be Zaha’s first of only two starts for the club, with the second coming against Norwich City in the League Cup.

Zaha made just two Premier League substitute appearances for United before he was loaned out to top-flight Cardiff City in January, where he failed to score or assist as the Bluebirds were relegated as they finished bottom of the table.

The 31-time Ivory Coast international then re-joined Crystal Palace on loan before his move was made permanent for just £6m, ending an 18-month nightmare at Old Trafford that saw him make just four first-team appearances.
