Wolves have reportedly rejected a £47million bid from Manchester City for Matheus Nunes.
Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to bolster their midfield but Wolves immediately turned down their approach.
The Premier League champions are intending to submit another bid but their initial approach is significantly short of what the Midlands club are expecting, as per The Telegraph.
Kevin de Bruyne’s long-term injury, coupled with the loss of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona earlier this summer, has left the treble winners looking for another midfielder.
Losing Nunes, one of their top players who signed from Sporting CP for a club-record £38m on a five-year deal last summer, would be another blow in what looks like a stormy season ahead for Wolves.

They have already lost a spate of high-profile players.
Fulham captured striker Raul Jimenez for £5.5m, Ruben Neves joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal for a club-record £47m, Leicester picked up Conor Coady for £7.5m, and Brentford signed Nathan Collins for £23m.
Gary O’Neil replaced Julen Lopetegui just days before the Premier League season after the Spanish manager resigned.
Lopetegui rescued the beleagured Midlands outfit last season and guided them from bottom to 13th in the Premier League.
The 56-year-old had appeared discontent at the club this summer, admitting he had ‘no control’ over their transfer plans while claiming that they ‘need more players’.
Back in May, he said there were some ‘Financial Fair Play problems I didn’t know before’ and grew frustrated at their trimmed-back approach to the transfer market. Wolves posted losses of approximately £46.1million last year.
The club’s parent company Fosun Sports Group announced in May that they were seeking new backing to remain competitive in the league.
While that search for funding was for the group itself, it would clearly have a knock-on effect on the football club.
Lopetegui felt it was not enough. He told Guillem Balague’s podcast: ‘We went to a plan B, trying to think about cost-effective players, but we can’t develop this plan, too. We lost a lot of players and we think the club want to sell more players.
‘It’s a pity because you are thinking at any moment key players can come and, in the end, they don’t for different reasons. We were excited by this new plan, but now we don’t have this plan because we don’t have any new players.’
