Tottenham: Postecoglou praises resilience following Kane’s departure
Tottenham ace Yves Bissouma has insisted Ange Postecoglou was right to tick him off for poor time-keeping after he arrived late for training on the second day of the Australian’s reign. Bissouma has become a key player under the former Celtic boss and has started his team’s first five Premier League matches of the season, with Spurs winning four of them and drawing the other.
Postecoglou has turned to Bissouma to become a Tottenham leader on an off the pitch, but the Mali international was unable to keep to his manager’s strict training times after suffering a blowout on his way to the training ground.
“I had a flat tyre and there was a lot of traffic as well but that’s not an excuse,” the midfielder explained. “Every player knows the times – and that he needs to be on time everywhere. The gaffer caught me and told me that to be a leader or a big, big player, you must respect all the details of the club.
“It’s about respect. That’s important. I said sorry to him and the rest of the players. We fixed it. And now I’m always the first at training.”

Bissouma has enjoyed an upturn in form since Postecoglou took the helm at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer. And the 27-year-old will be aiming to make an impact when his side go head-to-head with Arsenal in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
“The gaffer has given me confidence with his belief,” the player continued. “He’s very good as a manager and a really good person. Not just with me but with all his players. He always talks to us.”

Tottenham appeared to be heading for their first defeat of the season last Saturday as they trailed Sheffield United 1-0 with 97 minutes on the clock after Gustavo Hamer had put the visitors ahead with 17 minutes of the encounter remaining in north London. But after Richarlison headed in after 98 minutes, Spurs claimed the win thanks to a goal from Dejan Kulusevski in the 100th minute.
“When I saw the amount of added time, in my head I knew we could win,” Bissouma added. “I respect Sheffield United but, for me, to lose a game when you create so many chances is unacceptable. Then we win it in the last minute and the stadium is on fire. That feeling is why we play football.”
