Ronda Rousey ‘ready to quit WWE and return to UFC’ for final shot at title

Ronda Rousey is considering leaving WWE for one final run in the UFC.

Rousey has not fought in the Octagon since her emphatic, first-round defeat to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in 2016. The ‘baddest woman on the planet’ departed Dana White’s division with an impressive 12-2 record in MMA and as one of the most famous women’s fighters in the world.

As well as appearing in a variety of television shows and Hollywood blockbuster Fast and Furious 7, she went on to sign with WWE in 2018, where she has resided since. Rousey last competed in the squared circle at the SummerSlam PPV where she lost to Shayna Baszler.

Having previously teased an exit from the sports entertainment company, Rousey could now be set to leave the ring.

A confidant close to Rousey’s camp reportedly told the Daily Mail: “She just had a match at SummerSlam and is looking to wind down her time and commitments with the WWE. She is now focusing on potentially making a run to have one last fight in the UFC and compete at UFC 300 when that presents itself sometime next year.”

They also said she is “at a current crossroads in her life and career as she is looking to see what she might want to do next.” Rousey’s second spell in the WWE has been relatively mixed.

The 36-year-old took a break from the company after she gave birth to her first child La’akea Makalapuaokalanipo Browne. She returned at the start of 2022, and started strongly by winning a WWE championship, but has since dropped down the cards. Rousey is also believed to be considering having a second child as the source understands, “she would love to try for one more.”

Reports from GiveMeSport claim Rousey has a ‘hard out’ contract clause in her WWE which enables her to depart her deal at any point she wants. They also understand she is no longer working with the company.

Rousey’s return to the UFC would be a huge coup, as she was the first ever women’s fighter to be signed by the company. During her dominant title rain, she was also the highest earning competing fighter in the Octagon. Despite these reports, White recently shut down any prospect of Rousey one day making a return to the UFC. When asked about the likelihood of her ever coming back, he told Sports Illustrated: “There’s no shot.

“She’s accomplished everything she set out to do. Her dream was to win a UFC championship, then win a WWE championship, and she’s done it. Now she’s starting a family. Ronda has made so much money, and she’s still making a lot of money in sponsorships.”
