Dillon Danis to appeal Logan Paul defeat despite getting himself disqualified

Professional fighter and social media antagonist Dillon Danis plans to appeal the defeat he suffered at the hands of Logan Paul during their co-main event boxing match on the KSI vs Tommy Fury undercard.

Danis took to Twitter to quote tweet a video showing a member of Logan’s security team entering the ring early in round six of the fight. The 30-year-old seemingly agreed with the video’s caption asking if Paul should be disqualified for the infraction, saying: “There were multiple offences. I’ll be submitting my appeal to the commission today.”

During their six-round contest, Danis kept attempting a series of takedowns and front headlocks, which is more akin to Brazilian jiu-jitsu, his primary martial arts discipline. As a result, members of both camps stormed the ring, and Paul officially defeated Danis by disqualification.

The rules were broken after Danis kept lying down on the ground and inviting Paul to fight him there. Logan attempted to punch Danis while he was lying, which is also illegal in the sport of boxing.

Paul was able to shrug off Danis’ takedown and submission attempts and land effectively on his opponent for most of the six rounds. Ring announcer Michael Buffer confirmed Paul won every completed round on the scorecards.

Outside of his pending appeal, Danis asserted Paul avoided him for the entirety of the six-round contest. He highlighted that, during interviews, his opponent had repeatedly claimed to be capable of knocking him out in the first round, yet there was little evidence of this. Danis further challenged his adversary, suggesting he would emerge victorious with proper boxing training and considering his apparent reluctance to engage in a fight.

In the six rounds, Danis threw fewer than ten total punches and spent most of the match trying to antagonise Paul or get him to engage in illegal activity outside of boxing rules. He was met with booing from the Manchester crowd and tweets of disappointment from fans who paid £19.99 for the event as well as their monthly subscription to DAZN.

Danis seemingly did not care about his performance or the fans’ reactions to his lack of effort. He said he would return to fighting in MMA, claiming the UFC would be the next place he fights. Danis is the friend and training partner of former UFC double champion Conor McGregor.

After the match, he tweeted, “I am laughing to straight to the bank with this,” after previous claims that he would earn more than most fighters do in the UFC.

Official purses for the contest have yet to be released. KSI said he would bank an eight-figure payday in the main event but is investing most of the money earned back into his Misfits Boxing platform which promoted the event.

Before the match, Danis continuously posted images and made rude remarks towards Paul’s fiancee, Nina Agdal, who has been granted a restraining order against him. Agdal’s legal team said Danis posted risque content with her likeness nearly 250 times, and she is seeking $150,000 (£122,000) per violation. Danis admitted that he had to pay $100,000 (£82,000) to be allowed to fight Paul in the first place after being under contract with Bellator MMA.
