Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Deivid Washington for a fee believed to be around £17m.

The 18-year-old forward has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge with the option for a further year.

Washington could be loaned out however, with the club to decide over a potential switch to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg for the 2023-24 campaign.

He made his senior debut for Santos in April, coming on as a late substitute in the Copa do Brasil, before netting his first goal a month later in a 3-0 Serie A win over Bahia.

Chelsea are also looking to wrap up the £14m signing of New England Revolution keeper Djordje Petrovic who is due to have a medical with the Blues.

Chelsea have had a busy summer with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo, Lavia, Christopher Nkunku and Axel Disasi arriving for big money.

The Blues’ spending since Todd Boehly took over the club is closing in on the £1bn mark.

On the pitch, Mauricio Pochettino is still looking for his first Premier League win as an encouraging 1-1 draw with Liverpool was followed off with a disappointing 3-1 loss to West Ham.

His side though are battling an injury crisis, with nine players out, with Mykhailo Mudryk the latest to join the list.
