CHRIS SUTTON: Evan Ferguson reminds me of a young Alan Shearer

CHRIS SUTTON: Brighton striker Evan Ferguson reminds me of a young Alan Shearer… the Premier League big boys will be eyeing him next summer!

  • Evan Ferguson is only 18 but he is already displaying Alan Shearer’s attributes
  • It’s ridiculous to think how good he will when he fully develops in a few years
  • The Premier League big boys would be a fool to not have a look at the Irishman

He reminds me of a young Alan Shearer. That’s what I see when I look at Evan Ferguson.

I had the best seat in the house to watch Alan score a bundle of goals for Blackburn. The natural feel to his finishing, his physicality, his positioning.

Ferguson is only 18 but already he is displaying the attributes which made Alan a total menace for Premier League defenders.

It is ridiculous to think that Ferguson is only just getting going. Imagine where he will be in four years when he is 22. By then, he will be stronger and smarter and he will know when and where to apply those strong runs.

I’m sure Ferguson won’t let these headlines go to his head. He seems like a good character who will stay humble and keep working hard.

Evan Ferguson scored a hat-trick as Brighton thrashed Newcastle at the AMEX Stadium

The 18-year-old striker plays like a young Alan Shearer at Blackburn Rovers

He will know he’s got a long way to go if he wants to keep being compared to someone such as Alan Shearer for the remainder of his career. He might end up as the biggest Brighton transfer yet — and they got £115million for Moises Caicedo!

All of the Premier League’s big boys should be looking at him. If they aren’t, they’re fools. He is a striker who can link up with others and score in a variety of ways. His goals haven’t been copy and pastes of each other. Just look at his hat-trick against Newcastle.

I’m excited to see how he progresses in a team that loves to create chances. Get ready, it’s Fergie time!
