Aaron Ramsdale left sweating over Arsenal future as Mikel Arteta turns to David Raya
Dimitar Berbatov has defended Arsenal and Manchester United fans for being the ‘worst’ at leaving Premier League matches early. Supporters from both teams headed for the exit early on Sunday, missing an incredible conclusion to their match at the Emirates Stadium.
United starlet Alejandro Garnacho raced through on goal and coolly finished beyond Aaron Ramsdale in the 89th minute of the match. It prompted a stream of Arsenal supporters heading for the exits.
However, a lengthy VAR check found that the teenager had strayed just offside and disallowed the goal. Embarrassed fans headed back for their seats but likely missed Arsenal’s two stoppage-time goals.
First, Declan Rice put Arsenal ahead, before Gabriel Jesus made it 3-1. According to a survey by YouGov, Arsenal and United fans are actually the worst supporters for leaving matches prematurely.
Some excuses provided include wanting to beat the traffic, last-minute nerves, and supporters not wanting to see their team getting thumped. But former United striker Berbatov has sided with those individuals who choose to leave early.

“I can understand why fans leave early,” Berbatov, a Betfair ambassador, said.
“This is something Arsenal and Man United supporters are doing and I’ve done it myself when I go to watch games. You want to beat traffic but sometimes you can miss goals after 90 minutes.”
Completing the top six in the table for early-leaving supporters are Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Everton. Wolves, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest are among the likeliest to stay until the final whistle, the data suggests.
United boss Erik ten Hag believes the fans who stayed to see his side downed by Arsenal should instead have seen a Red Devils victory. He blamed the officials for what he perceived to be several mistakes, including judging Garnacho to be offside.

Ten Hag claimed – wrongly – that the video officials had selected the wrong angle to see Garnacho going through on goal. The Argentina star was in fact offside by the tightest of margins.
“The performance is right, we played a good game but everything went against us. And then you don’t win the game,” the Dutchman complained after the game.
“You saw the game, it’s not offside, that is the wrong angle, then [we should have] a penalty on Rasmus Hojlund, we concede a goal and that is a foul on Jonny Evans.”
