FPL tips for GW5 include must-have Man Utd and Tottenham stars and Haaland call

Erik ten Hag 'very happy' that Harry Maguire is staying at Manchester United

Home games for Tottenham and Manchester United in Gameweek 5 of the Premier League makes some of their players must-haves in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). And a hat-trick in his last league match means that some FPL players have a big decision to make over Erling Haaland.

Udogie good value at Spurs

Having started all four of Tottenham’s league games so far, Italian full-back Destiny Udogie has made an immediate impact after his summer move from Udinese. Costing FPL players just £4.7million the Tottenham star has also provided an assist in both of his last two Premier League appearances and is a good bet to return solid points at home to Sheffield United.

Will Rashford strike against Brighton?

Marcus Rashford opened his account for the season in Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal before the international break. The 25-year-old England star is a guaranteed starter on the left wing and has now found his form in his preferred role.

This weekend United host a Brighton side who are yet to keep a clean sheet this Premier League season and lost 3-1 at home to West Ham last month. Rashford has accumulated the most points of any United player this season with 19 points and scored seven in Gameweek 4.

Should you make Haaland captain?

Haaland returned to scoring form against Fulham with a hat-trick in Man City’s last league game and is the highest-scoring player in the league by six points after Gameweek 4. The dilemma facing FPL players is whether to make the 23-year-old their captain as United travel to West Ham on Saturday.

Haaland is not as good away from home against teams with solid defences. If you own Tottenham’s Son Heung-min, this might be the first weekend to bet against Haaland.

Consistent Salah could haunt Wolves

Mohamed Salah has started the season in top form for Liverpool by scoring two goals and providing as many assists in the opening four matches. The Egyptian is the highest points-scoring Liverpool player this season with 23 and could provide a useful addition to FPL sides as they head to Wolves on Saturday.

Son looks set for big weekend

Son looks set to fill the void left by Harry Kane in leading the line for Tottenham this season. The 31-year-old scored a hat-trick in his last Premier League match in their 5-2 victory against Burnley, when he started as a No 9.

This weekend Spurs welcome newly promoted Sheffield United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and many FPL players will understandably be making Son their captain. He could return a big haul.

Newcastle defenders could be good value

After conceding six goals in their opening three games the tide could turn for Newcastle United with the visit of Brentford this weekend. Kieran Trippier has picked up just five points FPL points this season despite being selected in over 30 per cent of teams but the Magpies’ have a strong run of fixtures and encouraging defensive data.
