Martinez steps up return but Rashford, Martial miss Man Utd training
Mason Greenwood has helped fire Getafe into the top half of La Liga in the opening months of his season-long loan from Manchester United. And Getafe president Angel Torres has no intention of losing the Red Devils forward at the end of his temporary spell amid intensifying transfer speculation.
Greenwood left United for Spain on transfer deadline day after then-chief executive Richard Arnold made a U-turn on his decision to reintegrate him into Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Ten Hag expected to have the 22-year-old at his disposal this season, but plans changed due to internal and external backlash.
Greenwood has been gradually getting back up to speed at Getafe, scoring four goals and providing three assists in his first 13 appearances.
His performances have reportedly caught the eye of a number of clubs across Europe, including Lazio and Real Sociedad.
But Greenwood is said to be enjoying life in Madrid, and Getafe are keen to extend his stay beyond next summer.
“With Greenwood, we are not only planning on him staying another year, but we also want to buy him,” club president Torres told Cadena SER.

Greenwood is under contract at United until 2025, and Arnold’s recent departure has drawn questions over whether a new sporting department helmed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe will take a different stance.
However, reports claim the Red Devils’ decision is final, and they will support the academy graduate in continuing his career elsewhere rather than handing him an opportunity at Old Trafford.
They will want to generate a transfer fee for Greenwood’s signature, though, and will have two more windows to do so after his Getafe loan.
Greenwood may be happy in the Spanish capital, but interest from clubs regularly in European competition could turn his head as he looks to reach a similar level as before his January 2022 arrest.

He was later charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour, all of which he denied.
However, following the withdrawal of key witnesses, the Crown Prosecution Service discontinued the charges in February this year.
It cleared United to launch a six-month internal investigation, after which Arnold announced he was “satisfied” that Greenwood didn’t commit the offences he was charged with.
Moving away from the Old Trafford spotlight was viewed as the best outcome for all parties, though. And it seems like he will make his departure permanent next year.
