Jurgen Klopp slams ‘ignorant’ Amazon Prime host after ‘disrespectful’ comment

Jurgen Klopp was left furious with an Amazon Prime presenter after he made a cheeky joke about Liverpool’s early kick-off times.

The Reds came away from Sheffield United with a crucial 2-0 win that moved them to within two points of Arsenal atop the Premier League table on Saturday. But the Liverpool manager was in no mood for the host’s tongue-in-cheek comment about Saturday’s 12:30pm kick-off at Crystal Palace, with Klopp previously voicing his frustration towards playing the first match of the weekend.

And the German’s reaction to presenter Marcus Buckland’s comment made for extremely awkward viewing, with tensions boiling over pitch-side at Bramall Lane after he was asked: “You've had to shuffle your pack you've got all these games in Europe and now you go to Crystal Palace – your favourite kick off time at the weekend.”

The expression on Klopp’s face immediately changed from a grin to that of thunder as he sarcastically replied: “That's great that's really great to make a joke about that.” Buckland attempted to smooth things over by adding: “You've still got the passion, you've still got the enjoyment. It's constant day in day out.”

But Klopp, already rattled, continued his sour tone: “Yeah now we go home I don't know what time we arrive maybe one o'clock or two o'clock and then we play again we maybe have two sessions. Tomorrow and Friday.

“It's fine to recover and then we play again. Crystal Palace play again tonight so that's fine. But I realise you don't understand that as well even when you work in football so why should I try to explain it again.

“If you make a joke of that then you're completely ignorant. But it's good, football is entertainment. It's all good.”

Buckland attempted to make amends by apologising to the Reds boss, saying: “I’m not trying to be disrespectful,” before Klopp interjected: “You were already.”

Klopp capped off the heated exchange by saying: “All good you can say what you want just but I cannot say what I want because that would be different.” And after being wished “success” by Buckland ahead of Palace, Klopp fumed one last time, saying: “You go tell Crystal Palace that as well. Thank you very much.”

The German shook hands with the presenter and two pundits before storming away. He would no doubt have been especially angry after it was confirmed defender Joel Matip will likely miss the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, as well as the possibility of missing Alexis Max Allister to a knee injury, as his much-loathed busy schedule takes a toll on players.
