Manchester United academy prospect Tyler Fletcher has switched his international allegiance back to Scotland from England.

The 16-year-old, who is the son of former United midfielder Darren Fletcher, was born in Manchester but is eligible to represent both nations.

Fletcher Jnr made his international bow for Scotland under-16s in September 2022, then turned out for England two months later.

In February, the midfielder switched back to Scotland came up against his twin brother Jack, representing England, in an under-16 clash during a tournament in Cyprus.

Tyler then played alongside Jack for England as they won the Montaigu Tournament back in April.

However, Tyler has returned to Scotland duty – for the time being at least – as he played against Belarus in an Under-17 European Championship qualifier in Turkey on Saturday. He started in midfield as Belarus won the game 3-1.

The two brothers played in Manchester City’s academy before they moved to United back in the summer.

Tyler played for United against Derby County in the Under-18 Premier League earlier this month, coming off the bench in a 3-1 win.

Jack made his under-18 bow, also against Derby, at the beginning of last season.

Fletcher Snr, who played over 300 games for United and won 10 major trophies at Old Trafford, now works as the club’s technical director and is believed to have been behind their switch.

Darren won 80 caps for Scotland between 2003 and 2017.
