Erik ten Hag previews Arsenal v Man Utd clash
Manchester United have announced their five new squad numbers for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign. Erik ten Hag’s major overhaul during the summer transfer window left several significant shirts vacant, with deadline-day signing Altay Bayindir taking the No 1 shirt following David de Gea’s departure as a free agent.

Sergio Reguilon also joined the Red Devils on the final day of the transfer window, signing on a season-long loan deal to try and resolve the club’s injury crisis in left-back with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia sidelined. The Spaniard will wear No 15 this season, and he could feature against Arsenal on Sunday after being registered in time to make his debut at the Emirates Stadium.
Marquee new arrival Rasmus Hojlund is also in line to make his debut in North London this weekend after recovering from a back problem. It has been announced that the Denmark international will wear No 11 for United, which he also wears whilst on international duty.
After Fred was sold to Fenerbahce earlier this summer, many assumed that Hojlund would take his No 17 shirt this season as that was his number whilst at former club Atalanta. However, Alejandro Garnacho has opted to switch from No 49 to his ex-teammates number.

Jonny Evans has also been announced as United’s new No 35 after he signed a one-year-long contract with his former side earlier this week. The veteran defender was only training with the Under-21s initially after he was released by Leicester City at the end of the season but his experience and leadership was valued during pre-season with the first-team and he has been rewarded for his efforts with the chance to return.
The 35-year-old, fittingly, wore the same shirt number when he was coming through the United academy before being given more ‘valuable’ shirts as he became one of the first names on the team sheet.

All five of the aforementioned stars could feature against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Sunday, though Sofyan Amrabat will need to wait to make his debut. The Morocco international was signed on loan from Fiorentina late on Friday but not registered in time to feature before the international break.
As a result, United announced that Amrabat will not receive a squad number yet. They explained in a statement: “The squad number of our final deadline-day signing Amrabat will be revealed once his registration is completed following his loan move from Fiorentina.”
