Man Utd signing Anwar El Ghazi could all blow up in Erik ten Hag’s face

Man Utd players' feelings towards Jadon Sancho after latest Erik ten Hag spat

Manchester United are reportedly considering a surprise move for ex-Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi as the free agent has been offered to the Red Devils. Amid uncertainty over the futures of Antony and Jadon Sancho, Erik ten Hag may bring in reinforcements through the Dutchman but could face a problem down the line.

El Ghazi left PSV by mutual consent last week and would be eligible to join United outside of the transfer window, after Antony was placed on a leave of absence amid allegations made against him while Sancho’s public spat with Ten Hag has escalated to the point where he could leave Old Trafford in January.

El Ghazi was in attendance for United’s 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal before the international break and could offer United a short-term solution to their right-flank issue. They are weighing up whether to offer the 28-year-old a contract but his potential signing could end up backfiring for Ten Hag.

United already have two promising talents that can fill in on the right in the form of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo, who would be chomping at the bit for an opportunity to impress in the Premier League. Signing El Ghazi would only move both down the pecking order for what may not even be a marginal short-term improvement.

Both starlets could even consider their futures at the club, as with two wingers unlikely to feature they are still not handed the opportunity to start, despite supposedly being highly rated by the club.

Pellistri has already come off the bench twice this season after impressing during pre-season, but if the 21-year-old who is a full Uruguay international is not deemed ready to step in for United amid their crisis in his position, then the call to sign El Ghazi may backfire if it results in a promising talent choosing to leave as a result of it.

The same could be said for Diallo, though the ex-Sunderland loanee has been out of action this season after suffering a knee injury in pre-season.

It is not yet clear when he will return but after a spell last season in the championship that saw a host of top-level sides clamour to loan him, Diallo could be denied a chance to win over Ten Hag.

Though El Ghazi has had a distinguished career in Europe, he failed to be a consistent performer in his previous spell in the Premier League despite some spectacular moments, and could stunt the progress of two starlets that United have spent years priming for the big stage – now could be their opportunity instead.
