Erik ten Hag reviews Brighton
Chris Sutton has sympathised with Erik ten Hag for the right-wing crisis he has been dealing with amid increasing pressure at Manchester United. And he doesn’t believe Ten Hag’s reign has reached the toxicity of Jose Mourinho’s final weeks in the Old Trafford hot seat amid looming sack claims.
United have endured a woeful start to the Dutchman’s second season in charge, losing three of their opening five Premier League games.
And the Red Devils’ wins against Wolves and Nottingham Forest were far from convincing, sparking doubts about the direction under Ten Hag.
But the cards he has been dealt in the opening weeks of the campaign have not been favourable, with unavailability plaguing his options.
Ten Hag will have entered the season expecting to have Antony, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood at his disposal.
In September, he has been left with none due to non-football reasons, which has undoubtedly contributed to United’s poor form.
And although he admits Ten Hag needs to oversee a quick improvement in M16, Sutton has called for caution on claims that he should be dismissed.

“Manchester United are not in such a big crisis as when Jose Mourinho was playing the blame game. He cut an isolated figure towards the end, with his mad, egotistical ramblings,” Sutton wrote for the Mail.
“But Erik ten Hag needs to solve this situation fast because the scrutiny on him is increasing with every sub-standard showing. United are a club with the highest expectations. Always have been. Always will be.
“To have only won two of their opening five Premier League games — and they were lucky they won those — is not good enough.
“I feel for Ten Hag in a way. He couldn’t help the Mason Greenwood situation. He couldn’t help the Antony situation.

“I’m not even sure he can help that Jadon Sancho seems like a prima donna because Ten Hag was only being honest about the player.
“When Mourinho was chucking everybody under the bus, he had lost the dressing room. It is not at that stage yet for Ten Hag.
“Bayern Munich on Wednesday will be tricky, but United need to show a better version of themselves when they visit Burnley in the league on Saturday.”
Ten Hag will hope to have more of his players available this week after confirming that Raphael Varane and Mason Mount were nearing returns.
