Manchester United fans have fumed at their bench for the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich – which includes three goalkeepers.

The injury-hit Red Devils are without several first-team stars for the trip to Germany, leaving Erik ten Hag extremely short of options outside of the starting XI. He was able to name just seven outfield replacements.

And the rest of the 10-strong bench was made up of shot stoppers Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton and Radek Vitek. After the matchday squad was announced, fans took to social media to react in their droves.

One supporter raged: "Three keepers on the bench sums up the current state of this club." Another echoed: "It says a lot about the state of the club that we've got more goalkeepers on the bench than defenders."

A third commented: "That bench for United is nasty…. Lmaoooo… we’re down so bad man…" And a fourth ranted: "HAHA Look at that bench! I mean that is one of the scariest bench I ever seen in my life.. NOT KIDDING!"

"Worst United bench I’ve ever seen," argued a fifth, while a sixth bemoaned: "Three goalies on the bench Manchester United. What are you doing to us?"

Ten Hag made just one change to the team that started the 3-1 defeat to Brighton at the weekend. Scott McTominay made way for right winger Facundo Pellistri, meaning Bruno Fernandes shifts back to his more natural central position and Christian Eriksen will play deeper.

Also benched was Jonny Evans, Saturday's goalscorer Hannibal Mejri, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, and academy midfielders Daniel Gore and Omari Forson.

United's injury list reads Sofyan Amrabat, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire. Ten Hag is also without the banished Jadon Sancho and Antony, who's on a leave of absence due to the sexual assault allegations he's facing.
