Peter Crouch delights fans by downing a pint at Ally Pally

Peter Crouch delights fans by downing a pint at the PDC World Darts Championship as he takes in the famous Ally Pally atmosphere – with the former striker egged on by chants of ‘Crouchy’s on the p***’

Peter Crouch was spotted enjoying himself at the PDC World Darts Championship on Tuesday night.

The two-and-a-half-week event, which is held between December 15 and January 3, has become one of British sport’s favourite times of the year.

Fancy dress, plenty of chanting and multiple pints are the norm and ‘Ally Pally’ has seen packed out crowds over the first five days of the tournament.

And on Tuesday, Crouch was among those in attendance alongside Chris Stark and Steve Sidwell, who he co-hosts the Peter Crouch podcast with.

The former England, Tottenham and Portsmouth striker was seen taking photos with fans and dancing.

Meanwhile, footage also showed the popular 42-year-old downing a drink before placing his cup upside down on his head.

Crouch was sitting in the VIP area of Alexandra Palace and was egged on by the crowd to finish his drink.

After seeing it off, fans chanted: ‘Crouchy’s on the p***,’ before he lobbed his empty cup further into the crowd.

His podcast colleagues Sidwell and Stark joined in, with former Fulham, Chelsea and Reading midfielder Sidwell similarly downing a drink.

Meanwhile, after losing a bet, Stark was forced to dance on stage with the event’s cheerleaders.

The trio would have watched darts icon Michael van Gerwen book his place in the third round of the competition following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Keane Barry

The highlight of the Dutchman’s victory was an impressive 167 checkout as he finished with an average of 98.17.

However, Van Gerwen insisted on stage that he wasn’t happy with his display as he said: ‘I’m a little disappointed with my scoring, the most important thing is I won my first game.

‘You don’t want to let yourself down, you have to fight for every leg, and when things like the 167 work it gives you a great boost.

‘It’s the first round of the World Championship no one wants to lose, there is pressure on me, like there is all the top boys. The most important thing is I’m back after Christmas.’

There were also wins for Steve Beaton, Mike De Decker and Ricardo Pietreczko in the Tuesday evening session.
