West Ham United fans must have been thinking they needed their hearing checked after Sky Sports announced Hammers forward Jarrod Bowen had signed a new seven-year deal with Manchester United.
Bowen, who arrived at the London Stadium from Hull City on January deadline day back in 2020, has become a fan favourite with West Ham fans during his time at the club, netting the winner in their 2-1 Europa Conference League final victory against Fiorentina earlier this year.
The 2023/24 season has seen the 26-year-old hit the ground running, with Bowen having scored five goals in seven Premier League appearances this term. So good has his form been, it has even earned him a recall to Gareth Southgate's England squad for their upcoming October internationals against Australia and Italy.

And his excellent form of late has seen him rewarded with a new bumper contract at the London Stadium, with Bowen set to sign a new seven-year deal with David Moyes' side. However, when they announced the news on Sky Sports, they left some football fans scratching their heads.
Broadcaster Vicky Gomersall suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue, stating Bowen had signed his new deal with Manchester United, rather than the Hammers. "Yeah, just a little bit of breaking news we'll get reaction to this later on the show but Jarrod Bowen has agreed a new long-term contract with Manchester United so great news for them," Gomersall said.
Would Jarrod Bowen be a good signing for Manchester United? Let us know in the comments section below.
"A formal announcement expected in the next 24 to 48 hours and it's understood, the deal will take him up to 2030. As I said, we'll have more on that a little bit later in the show."
And footy fans on social media were quick to point out the Bowen blunder. One fan wrote: "Why she say Manchester United…." Another added: "Anybody else notice she says Manchester United instead of West Ham United?"

A third commented: "Surely I’m not the only one noticed she said Manchester United? How can pundits get something this wrong." And a fourth wrote: "Massive breaking news if he’s actually signed for Manchester United not West Ham."
