Nick Kyrgios makes Boris Becker clarification as Australian star insists he is ‘done’ with bitter feud with tennis legend

  • Nick Kyrgios says his bitter row with Boris Becker is ‘done’
  • Kyrgios has been engaged in a war of words with the German
  • He insists he was not dismissing Becker’s achievements

Nick Kyrgios says he is ‘done’ with his bitter feud with Boris Becker as the Australian made a clarification on his stance amid tennis’ hottest debate.

The pair have been firing shots at each other since 2020 but their row went nuclear on Tuesday with the Wimbledon finalist bringing up the German champion’s jail sentence in their online war of words.

In the latest twist, Kyrgios said that Becker and other greats of his era could not cut it in the modern game.

‘The game was so slow back then,’ the 28-year-old said.

‘I’ve watched Boris Becker and I’m not saying they weren’t good in their time, but to say that they would be just as good now, it’s absurd.

Nick Kyrgios has clarified his stance amid his bitter feud with Boris Becker

Becker claims players from his decade established a tennis world where players like Kyrgios could enjoy fame and money even when they weren’t playing

‘A big serve back then was like 197 to 200[kmh]. People like me, we serve 220 consistently, to corners. It’s a whole different ball game.’

That clearly rattled the former world No.1, with the 56-year-old German launching a series of fresh attacks on Kyrgios.

Becker says the past legends of the sport made it possible for the injured Aussie to make a living from tennis without playing all year.

‘You have to have respect for the past & simply say ‘thank you’ out loud that these old pros existed, because without them the tennis circus would no longer exist,’ he said.

Kyrgios was having none of that, though, saying he earned his own fame while taking a pot shot at Becker’s criminal past.

‘Uhhh what? I’ve been arguably one of the most watched players outside the big three the last decade?’ Kyrgios posted on X.

Kyrgios insisted that he was not taking anything away from Becker’s achievements

Kyrgios got personal, bringing up Beckers bankruptcy and consequent jail term as insults

‘Fans around the world and have brought so many more people to the sport. I’ve created my own stuff off the court. Try to not hide any more assets x.’

That final line was a dig at Becker’s recent financial turmoil that led to his imprisonment in 2017.

But Kyrgios’s line of argument has drawn criticism, with some claiming that the Aussie was diminishing Becker’s achievements on the tennis court.

Yet the 28-year-old has insisted that he was in no way dismissing the German.

‘Not once have I taken ‘slams’ away from Becker, or any of these legends,’ he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘Not once have I said I’ve impacted the game MORE. I’ve simply said that I’ve built my own brand and done it my way & brought fans.

‘Apparently a slam finalist has no credibility. Night, done with this convo.’
